The Fairfield community is mourning the loss of former resident David K. Wells, 69, and his wife, Aileen Wells, who were found dead inside their Newburgh, Indiana, home on Monday evening in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide.
According to the Warrick County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the couple’s residence on Hannah Court at approximately 8:00 p.m. to conduct a welfare check. After receiving no response, officers entered the home through a back door and discovered both David and Aileen deceased inside.
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate the couple had been dead for less than 24 hours before they were found. Authorities are treating the case as a suspected murder-suicide, though the investigation remains ongoing. David K. Wells was well known in both Fairfield, Illinois, and the Evansville, Indiana, area. A Fairfield native, he graduated with the Fairfield High School Class of 1975 before establishing a successful career in television commercial production in Evansville.
Later in life, Wells became a local business owner, operating Cigar! Cigar!, a tobacco store located at 500 N. Congress Avenue in Evansville. Through both his professional career and business endeavors, he became a familiar figure in the community.
